We are delighted to share an update on how your generous donations have made a significant impact on the well-being of our midwifery team. Your support has enabled us to fund a wellness session tailored to address the pressing challenges faced by our dedicated midwives.

The decision to organise this self-care event was influenced by several factors highlighted by our midwifery team. The ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with a national shortage of midwives, have put immense pressure on our staff. This not only affects individual midwives but also has a ripple effect on the entire maternity team.

The nature of a midwife's role is inherently emotional and demanding. Our team often finds themselves caring for women and families during their most vulnerable moments, such as supporting refugee or asylum-seeking families, victims of domestic violence, and those experiencing stillbirth or infant loss. The midwifery team got in touch to emphasise the urgency of addressing mental health issues within our profession, and thanks to your donations we have been able to provide the team with useful coping mechanisms that they can apply to their professional and personal lives.

The wellness session, led by Rosie Durham, a Reiki professional, focused on mindfulness, breathing techniques, and visualisation. Feedback from similar past events has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants describing the sessions as relaxing, empowering, and equipping them with valuable tools to navigate periods of stress and difficult times at work.

Your support not only funded this vital session but also symbolises your commitment to the well-being of our healthcare professionals. The maternity team would like to extend their gratitude to you and acknowledge the impact of your contributions. Your generosity allows us to continue providing essential support and resources to our team.
