The neonatal intensive care / special care unit at East Surrey Hospital was very restricted in its capacity, which posed a real challenge for the number of babies we could care for at any one time, and the comfort of the families under the care of the unit.
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) has invested to transform this, by moving a number of services into a brand new building, and completely rebuilding and expanding the neonatal unit in the hospital.
Alongside this, your donations are helping the new unit go far beyond what would have otherwise been possible.
The new unit is a modern space with significantly enhanced facilities. There is more space around each baby’s intensive care cot, additional capacity so more families can be cared for here, as well as new, modern family rooms for families to use, away from the bedside.
This is good news for local babies and parents, but we want to do more.
Help us go even further
Alongside this fantastic new facility, your donations are helping the clinical teams go further for families.
Your support has already helped to provide an enhanced level of equipment for the unit, beyond what would be expected in a local hospital, alongside improved facilities for families to spend comfortable time away from the clinical environment.
Your support has helped provide five state of the art 'Babyleo' incubators, calming rainforest themed decor throughout the whole unit, and a brand new family room for families to step away from the clinical environment.
We hope to now go further for families - by transforming an overnight room where parents stay alongside their premature babies, and by fundraising for a specialist neonatal transport incubator. Your donations to Olive's Appeal will help us further enhance the care of the very smallest and most unwell babies we care for, and will help turn a clinical feeling overnight room info a homely, comfortable, comforting room for parents and babies to stay together overnight before being ready to go home.
We can only do this with your help.
