We are delighted to announce that the new staff rest pods at East Surrey Hospital are now open thanks to your support for our staff welfare appeal

The two pods are situated near the East Entrance open every day, and provide much needed new spaces for staff to take breaks, even when it’s cold, windy or rainy. These are the first of a number of improvements for staff and visitor areas coming in the next few months, across all SASH sites. (Read more here).

Built directly in response to feedback from staff (our nurses originally) that having space to take a break can sometimes be a challenge, particularly where social distancing and mask wearing is required in the hospital, the pods have colourful, comfortable furniture, lighting and heating for winter, as well as usb power sockets for charging phones/devices.

Alongside the pods is a newly created picnic area, with planters, and a number of new outdoor picnic tables for patients visitors and/or staff to use on warmer days.

20210609_110655-1024x768.jpgThis week, as we opened the pods, staff (and passing patients and visitors) were treated to fresh fruit and bottles of still or sparking water at The Pods thanks to generous donations from customers and staff of The Pilot’s Hub brasserie at Redhill Aerodrome. This was thanks to customers who bought fresh fruit boxes from The Pilots Hub during the past year, who also donated to provide fruit and drinks to staff in the hospital through COVID-19, culminating in this generous provision of fresh fruit and drinks for the launch of our new staff rest pods.

These developments will make a real difference at East Surrey Hospital in the coming years, so we are hugely grateful to everyone who donates, or fundraises to help make things like this possible.
