Since our update a few weeks ago, you’ve done more amazing things. Including:
Lasers! Enabling advanced training on the use of lasers in opthamology. This was made possible thanks to a legacy (a gift in someone’s will) specifically for our eye services.
Intensive care nurses: Helping two of our intensive care nurses attend and present at a the European Society for Intensive Care Medicine. Thanks to your donations, in October Louisa and Rebecca will be representing the Trust at this major conference in Berlin, attended by 6000 physicians from 97 countries, presenting on their research right here at SASH.
Equipment: A new trolley for emergency equipment on Tilgate Ward, enabling essential equipment to be kept together for easy use in an emergency.
Improved facilities for staff in the temporary staffing department, which helps ensure the Trust has an effective bank of flexible workers.
Flowers for the hospital chapel for a whole year. The chaplaincy service provides support to patients, family members and staff, across the whole trust, both in the multi-faith chapel, and through visits to people in all of our wards and departments. Donations have helped us provide flowers for the chapel, which is a hugely valued place of calm and reflection.
Improving a family room on the stroke unit (Chaldon Ward). Your donations are providing a new sofa and arm chairs, alongside other improvements to the room which will be a valuable new space for families to rest, or speak to staff, away from the hospital bedside.
A 3D replica liver, and replica alcoholic drinks for use in educating patients and staff on the impact of alcohol.
Art and craft materials and gifts for children on our childrens ward (Outwood Ward). Donations enabled us to provide a supply of materials to help entertain and stimulate our young patients, as well as siblings visiting the hospital.
Epilepsy family fun day. Local children with epilepsy were treated to a summer fun day thanks to our fantastic specialist nurse Kirsten McHale. 80 children, parents and helpers gathered at Blacklands Farm in East Grinstead, where the youngsters enjoyed a barbeque lunch and could take part in a climbing wall, rope activity courses and creative challenges. The idea behind the day was to help young people and their families make friends and build a support network. It was entirely made possible thanks to fundraising and donations. Kirsten raised money through a curry and quiz night to fund the event. And what a brilliant event!
Local mother Alison Best, who attended with her daughter, said: “We are very grateful for all the time and effort put into fundraising and organising such a special day. We really appreciate everything Kirsten does, both in the hospital and on the fun days.”
