Since the beginning of the partnership in 2020, Gatwick Airport has generously supported SASH Charity. We are extremely appreciative of our longstanding partnership with the Airport, which in 2022 raised over £33,000 for refurbishment and enhancement projects around the hospitals.

Airport colleagues raised the funds through a range of fundraising and events; including the popular Run Gatwick, collections from passengers in the terminals, and organising once in a lifetime prizes to win in a charity raffle, and most recently the sale of refurbished laptops for Gatwick staff has also contributed to the overall success of the partnership.

GAL SASH-0509.jpgThe donations from airport passengers and staff have helped to create new rest areas, such as the much-needed wellbeing room, where hospital staff can take a break from their busy workday, as well as outside benches for staff and visitors to have a form of escapsim in the great outdoors. Gatwick’s support has also extended to helping transform the chemotherapy suite at East Surrey Hospital, benefiting patients receiving these vital treatments. Their generosity helped us to thank health and care staff across Surrey and Sussex, through sponsorship of The Big Surrey & Sussex Thank You, which was lead by SASH Charity, and attended by staff and volunteers from 53 health and care organisations and charities across  the area. The airport also kindly funded vouchers for SASH colleagues to bring a little festive cheer to hospital wards in East Surrey, Crawley and Horsham hospitals over Christmas 2022.

As part of this special partnership, Gatwick’s Gary Gatwick visited East Surrey Hospital to present a cheque to SASH Charity and visit the children’s ward. Gary Gatwick distrbuted books to the children’s ward, brining joy and comfort to the young patients and their families to enjoy together.

GAL SASH-0217.jpgAdditionally, Gatwick colleagues dedicated their time to volunteering and organising events such as ‘Restart a Heart day’ which took place in Gatwicks departure lounge at the South Terminal in 2022. This day played an important part in educating passengers on the importance of CPR and defibrillators, and most importantly, provided knowledge to those on how to act in these scenarios.

SASH Charity is immensely grateful for Gatwick Airport’s continued support and dedication to enhancing patient care at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The charity looks forward to continuing the incredible partnership with Gatwick Airport to provide crucial support to our community.
