Every penny you donate to SASH Charity has an impact here in your hospitals. We want to show you exactly how you can help in the coming weeks and months. These five things will only happen with your help, through donations, fundraising, and helping spread the word. Read more on each of these on our website, contact us to find out more, or donate now to help make them happen.

  1. Help us keep saying yes to ideas from staff

Every week, staff at SASH NHS Trust come to the charity with ideas to help improve things for patients. Your donations are what allows us to say yes. Recently you’ve helped us support over 100 ideas from staff ranging from an x-box for the childrens ward, lamps and Bluetooth speakers for the maternity ward, through to video calling tablets for every wards, and a refurbishment of the chemotherapy suite.

Having supported a lot of ideas, we are now running low on funds, and need your help to be able to keep saying yes to ideas from colleagues across SASH NHS trust.  Donate HERE

2. A new space for people with cancer

Help build a new summerhouse for people affected by cancer in Surrey and Sussex.

1 in 2 of use will get cancer in our lifetimes. The East Surrey Macmillan Cancer Centre provides support to people being treated for/affected by cancer. At the suggestion of cancer centre users, we need your help to raise the money to build a new gazebo/summerhouse in the cancer centre garden. With your support, this will help people using the cancer centre to make use of the garden in all weather, either for sheltered fresh air on drizzly days, or to provide shade on warmer and sunnier days. You can support the new summerhouse by donating HERE.

3. Overnight rooms for parents of premature babies

Over 500 babies a year require special care or intensive care in the neonatal unit at East Surrey Hospital. By donating to SASH Charity you will help us turn a clinical feeling room, into a homely, comfortable overnight room for parents to stay alongside their baby before being well enough to go home. Read more about our neonatal unit fundraising appeal – Olive’s Appeal here.

4. A new staff room for the 300 staff in the Emergency Department at East Surrey Hospital.

Over 300 people work in the Emergency Department. 24 hours a day. Every day. They save lives. In a typical day, over 100 ambulances bring people in blue-light emergencies to the department. Alongside this people arrive on foot, or with relatives. The team work all day and all night to save lives, and care for us when we need it most.

The current staff room is very dated and worn. With little storage space, very little comfortable seating and no outdoor space for staff. Your donations will help us completely transform the staff room, with comfortable, bespoke seating and tables, new storage lockers, a staff kitchen, changing area, and access to a newly refurbished courtyard next to the emergency department, so emergency staff can step outside for fresh air in the middle of a long shift. Read more about the new ED staff room plans here

5. Hardship Grants

Finally – we hope to use a small proportion of donations to the charity to be able to provide new hardship grants to NHS staff facing an urgent financial crisis. In those (hopefully rare) occasions where NHS colleagues have already received help from the NHS Trust, from specialist organisations such as Citizens Advice Bureau, we hope to be able to make one-off urgent hardship grants to directly help them to keep going. The hardship grants scheme has already helped a nursing assistant to not be evicted, and a single parent who was struggling with debts following an unexpected change in their personal circumstances. You can donate directly to the hardship grants scheme HERE.

These five things will only happen with your support. Please donate now.

If you or your group/organisation can help with fundraising, you can set up a fundraising page online at https://sashcharity.enthuse.com/profile.

Or do get in touch if you have any questions at all - by email to sash.charity@nhs.net.

Thank you!
